Після нічної атаки на Київ, студія німецького мовника ARD зазнала серйозних пошкоджень.

Kyiv Under Fire: May 24 Attack

According to Главком: A heavy nighttime assault on Kyiv on May 24 caused significant damage to the studio of German public broadcaster ARD. The strike resulted in major destruction, including the loss of professional television equipment. No staff were present inside the building at the time, so no media workers were harmed. Journalists have since relocated to alternative sites to continue their reporting.

This bombardment ranks among the most severe in recent weeks. More than 50 locations across Kyiv sustained damage, such as:

  • the Lukyanivka market
  • the 'Zeleny Ostrov-1' and 'Zeleny Ostrov-2' residential complexes near the U.S. Embassy
  • the Azerbaijani Embassy building
  • the National Art Museum
  • the Chernobyl Museum

The ARD studio was hit by falling debris and a blast wave that shattered windows and window frames, leading to a partial collapse of interior walls.

'Ripped-out window frames, shattered glass everywhere, destroyed equipment-seeing your own workplace completely devastated is a shock.' ARD Studio Director Vasyl Holod

Holod noted that 'Russian airstrikes have been massive and relentless for years, forming part of the harsh reality of life in Ukraine,' underscoring the severity of the situation Ukrainians face amid the conflict.

Among the recorded impacts were 'Oreshnik' missile strikes on Bila Tserkva in Kyiv Oblast, adding to the widespread alarm and anxiety among the population. The attack caused not only physical destruction but also significant psychological strain on the capital's residents.

This assault highlights the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its severe toll on civilian infrastructure and media operations. The loss of the ARD studio serves as further evidence of how war disrupts journalists striving to cover events in the country despite dangers and devastation. The psychological impact on civilians cannot be overlooked either, as such attacks instill fear and worry that can disrupt everyday life. The bombardment of Kyiv is a stark reminder of the need for international support and a resolution to the conflict.

The recent attack on the ARD studio is just one of many incidents that highlight the ongoing impact of the conflict on cultural sites in Ukraine. For instance, President Zelenskyy's visit to the Chernobyl Museum following a missile strike underscores the critical importance of preserving these historical locations amid the chaos of war.
