Netherlands will close housing for Ukrainians from 2027: what awaits refugees
The Minister of Housing of the Netherlands, Mona Keizer, announced plans to close housing for Ukrainian refugees after the expiration of the EU temporary protection in 2027. According to this, Ukrainians will be able to obtain three-year residence permits but will have to solve housing and medical care issues on their own.
However, critics call this model not well thought out, especially considering the housing shortage in the country. For example, Bart Dikkershey from Heroyam believes that without additional measures, this plan may remain just on paper.
It is worth noting that over three-quarters of Ukrainians in the Netherlands live in housing units created by the government, so their elimination may create serious problems, especially with funding. It is also important to consider that some Ukrainians may need social assistance despite their ability to work and contribute to the country's economy.
Moreover, it should be noted that the Dutch government has allocated additional funds for Ukraine to support air defense and supply ammunition for F-16 planes, which indicates a certain friendship and cooperation between the countries.
