Germany cancels Bürgergeld for Ukrainians: who will lose benefits

The German authorities have decided to stop paying higher social assistance to Ukrainian refugees who refuse work without good reason. The aim of this step is to promote faster integration of Ukrainians into German society and reduce the financial burden on the country's budget.

Until this moment, Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Germany after the war received higher social assistance than other asylum seekers. However, with the new rules, those who refuse work without a valid reason will receive less assistance and face stricter conditions.

Thus, Ukrainians who are in Germany until April 1, 2025, will continue to receive a certain amount of assistance, but with the introduction of new rules, the size of this assistance will be reduced. An official date for the implementation of these changes has not yet been established.
