HX-2 Drone Production for the Ukrainian Armed Forces

According to Главком: German defense firm Helsing SE has initiated large-scale manufacturing of HX-2 attack drones for Ukraine’s military at a classified facility in Germany. Deliveries of these munitions started in late 2024, with each drone priced at roughly €17,500. The HX-2 has already proven its battlefield effectiveness, achieving a mission success rate of around 70%.

Serial assembly is now underway at a plant whose exact location is kept secret for security reasons. Situated in southern Germany under tight guard, the facility bears no external signage. The production line is designed to be mobile, capable of being dismantled and relocated within a single day. Around 100 employees work at the site, all of whom undergo security vetting and sign non-disclosure agreements.

Technical Specifications of the Drones

A key feature of the HX-2 is its ability to continue executing missions even when GPS and radio communications are jammed, enhancing its combat effectiveness. Separately, on July 1, Ukraine’s State Export Control Service authorized the export of a batch of F10 drones to meet the needs of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Gundbert Scherf, a representative of Helsing SE, noted: 'These technologies are evolving very rapidly.'

The launch of HX-2 production marks a significant step in strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, especially amid the ongoing conflict. Thanks to their technical attributes, these drones can substantially alter the dynamics of combat operations, offering new tactical possibilities. At the same time, the development of unmanned systems within Ukraine and their supply from abroad underscores the critical role of international military support and the efforts of partner nations to provide Ukraine with modern warfare tools.

As Ukraine continues to enhance its military capabilities, it recently took a significant step by launching its first open tender for combat drones. This initiative reflects the urgent need for advanced unmanned systems in the ongoing conflict. To learn more about Ukraine's efforts to procure these vital technologies, explore the details of the tender and its implications for the armed forces.
