New contracts for the Armed Forces of Ukraine: what deferment will military personnel receive after service
Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the implementation of new contracts for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These contracts will provide for a deferment from service after the contract term ends and will be available to active military personnel.
Contracts for a term of two years or more will grant the right to a deferment from mobilization for 12 months. However, one-year contracts will not provide such a condition.
Shmyhal emphasized that the implementation of the new model will require changes to legislation and a number of Cabinet resolutions. The documents are already undergoing approval and are planned to be brought to public discussion at the beginning of 2026.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky explained that the basic financial support for servicemen will amount to 50-60 thousand UAH. This amount will be received by contract servicemen, excluding additional payments for service on the front line.
The Ministry of Defense, at the request of the president, has begun preparing new types of contracts for servicemen. These contracts will include increased monthly payments, signing bonuses, and an expanded social package.
It is reported that the Ukrainian military department is implementing new types of contracts for servicemen that will include various conditions, including deferment from mobilization and increased financial support. These changes are planned to take effect at the beginning of 2026.
