New entry rules to Sri Lanka in autumn 2025: what Ukrainians need to know

Sri Lanka Visa 2025
Нові вимоги для в'їзду в Шрі-Ланку з осені 2025 року: важливі деталі для українців.

In 2025, Ukrainians can enter Sri Lanka with a visa on arrival by obtaining an electronic travel authorization (ETA) online in advance - this simplifies planning holidays on exotic beaches. The stay is limited to 30 days with the possibility of extension up to six months. This is reported by how2go.info.

How to obtain an electronic entry permit to Sri Lanka in autumn 2025

The entry process has become even more convenient:

  1. ETA is filled out on the website https://eservices.immigration.gov.lk/ before departure, costs vary depending on the duration (from free for children under 12) and arrives by email within 24 hours.
  2. Print the document for verification at the airport.
  3. Upon arrival, fill out the 'Arrival Card' online or on-site.

Requirements for Ukrainians entering Sri Lanka

For Ukrainians with biometric or regular passports, the key requirements are:

  • A foreign passport valid for more than 6 months after leaving Sri Lanka.
  • A copy of the first page of the passport.
  • A return ticket or a ticket to a third country.
  • Hotel or accommodation booking.
  • Medical insurance covering 'Worldwide'.

Border guards may ask about finances - plan for $25 per day. For children: under 16 a child passport is required, from 16 - an adult passport. If a child is with one parent, take a notarized permission in English. During the war, insurance is mandatory: it is checked at the border, as travelers' reviews indicate.

The background of changes in Sri Lanka's visa policy is related to the recovery of tourism after the pandemic and economic crises. Since 2021, ETA has replaced paper visas, simplifying entry for 190+ countries, including Ukraine. In 2025, the rules are stable: extension of the visa online through the same portal, without leaving.

However, the war in Ukraine adds nuances - airlines (Timatic) strictly verify documents, so prepare everything in advance. According to Visit Ukraine and Immigration.gov.lk, refusals are rare, especially with a return ticket and insurance.

Earlier we wrote that in Sri Lanka the power went out due to a monkey that climbed into a transformer.
