Government Announces Zero-Interest Loans for Generators and Direct Payments for Critical Workers
New Support for Businesses and Critical Infrastructure Employees
According to Главком: In response to the ongoing energy crisis, the Ukrainian government has unveiled new support measures for businesses and critical infrastructure workers. These include zero-interest loans for generators and battery storage, as well as one-time cash payments. The aid is being channeled through the existing '5-7-9%' program, with the state covering the interest costs via the Entrepreneurship Development Fund for qualifying enterprises.
Loan Terms and Direct Aid
Loans are available through nearly 50 partner banks in the '5-7-9%' program for up to three years, with a maximum amount of 10 million hryvnias. Additionally, self-employed individuals (classified as Groups 2-3) working in socially vital sectors can apply for one-time aid payments. These range from 7.5 thousand to 15 thousand hryvnias, depending on the number of hired employees, provided they have at least one worker on staff.
Applications for assistance must be submitted through the 'Diia' portal. Partner banks verify the applications, and the State Employment Service transfers the funds. The money can be used for:
- purchasing or repairing energy equipment;
- fuel for generators;
- paying for electricity services.
Furthermore, Ukrainian energy, heating, gas, utility, and railway workers will receive a state bonus of 20 thousand hryvnias added to their salaries.
As Yuliia Svyrydenko noted, 'We thank businesses for their resilience and responsibility. These decisions are intended to help them continue operating, serve as resilience hubs, and preserve jobs during this most challenging energy period.'
These measures aim to ensure business continuity and support workers in critical sectors during Ukraine's protracted energy crisis. The targeted loans and direct payments are crucial for preserving jobs and maintaining infrastructure operations amid severe resource constraints. This government action highlights a proactive approach to the immense challenges facing Ukraine's economy, which has been under immense strain due to the war.
