Drone Strikes Leave Odesa and Chornomorsk Without Water Supply
Water Supply Crisis Hits Odesa and Chornomorsk
According to Главком: A drone attack on February 23rd has caused a major disruption to the water supply in the cities of Odesa and Chornomorsk. The assault cut power to critical water infrastructure, leaving parts of both cities without running water and forcing authorities to implement scheduled water usage. Representatives from 'Infoxvodokanal' and Chornomorsk's Mayor, Vasyl Huliaiev, have confirmed the details of the crisis. These attacks are part of a wider pattern of targeting civilian infrastructure in Ukraine's southern regions.
The power outage at water system facilities has halted stable water delivery to several districts of Odesa. Areas currently affected include:
- Primorskyi district
- Moldavanka neighborhoods
- Blyzhni and Dalni Mlyny in the Khadzhybei district
Within the Chornomorsk community, special water consumption schedules are now in effect. The situation there remains tense, with critical infrastructure relying on backup power sources to function.
Utility crews are working to restore power to the water utility facilities, but repair efforts are ongoing. Local officials have reported a subsequent hostile attack. On the night of February 23rd, enemy forces targeted the Odesa region with strike drones, aiming at industrial, energy, and civilian infrastructure sites.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has discussed Russia's new tactics of mass strikes with regional representatives.
This water crisis underscores the vulnerability of essential services to modern warfare. Restoring electricity and water remains the top priority for local authorities and energy companies. Such incidents highlight the escalating nature of the conflict and the urgent need to bolster security for Ukraine's vital utilities and communication networks.
