A Hen Named Lariska: The Unlikely Family Pet of an Odesa Woman
Kateryna Doicheva's Unconventional Companion
According to Главком: An Odesa resident, Kateryna Doicheva, has gained attention for her unique pet: a hen named Lariska. She originally purchased the bird at a market for a music video shoot. Lariska has since become a full-fledged member of the household, accompanying Kateryna on walks, sharing meals, and even visiting cafes. While the hen currently shares an apartment with a cat and a dog, Kateryna plans to move her to a private house, believing 'this animal should live in nature.'
A Special Bond with Lariska
Kateryna Doicheva emphasizes the unique connection she shares with Lariska.
"They say it's not people who choose an animal, but the animal who chooses the people. He offered another one, and I said no-no-no, please give me this one," she notes.
She adds that she feels 'we are inseparable now. She is a very smart hen. Smarter than some people.' However, caring for Lariska is not a simple task: 'It's not easy. We look after her, keep an eye on her. She gets lonely too.'
Lariska is not the only unusual pet in Ukraine. Other examples include:
- A 150-kilogram wild boar living in a Bukovyna home.
- A 5-kilogram piglet named Hudochok, brought from Sniatyn in March 2023, who became the pet of Viktoriia Husarova.
- 900 bats rescued in Kharkiv, which had been hibernating for years on a residential balcony.
Thus, the story of Kateryna Doicheva and her hen Lariska is part of a broader trend where pets are not limited to traditional cats and dogs. This case highlights a shift in the perception of companion animals in Ukraine, where more people are choosing unconventional species. Stories like Lariska's demonstrate that the bond between humans and animals can transcend traditional expectations. It also reflects a growing conversation about adapting pets to urban living while prioritizing their comfort and welfare.
