Cyberpolice warns about fraudulent online car checks: how not to become a victim

Internet car check: owners warned about a widespread scam
Кіберполіція попереджає про шахраїв, які пропонують перевірки автомобілів в інтернеті: способи захисту від обману.

Sellers who offer cars at excessively low prices send photos of documents and claim that the vehicle has passed all online checks. For convincingness, the fraudsters present fake PDF files or links to 'government websites'.

Criminals in Ukraine are currently exploiting buyers' trust by offering low prices and displaying fake documents. However, the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Cyberpolice have warned that there is no full official car check available online.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that no electronic document or extract from open sources confirms the real status of the car. An official check can only be carried out at the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where extracts from the registers, confirmation of the absence of encumbrances, and expert examinations of vehicles and documents will be provided.

Experts advise avoiding dubious resources and 'online services', even if they use the logos of state institutions. Reliable sources always have a domain of 'gov.ua' or a verification mark on social networks. If you come across suspicious content, it is recommended to report it to the Cyberpolice through an electronic appeal.

Mediation in car purchases can lead to fraud through false 'online checks'. The Ministry of Internal Affairs stresses the importance of official confirmation of the car's condition at specialized service centers to avoid fraudulent schemes and fake documents.
