Party Rebrands and Elects New Leadership
According to Главком: In December 2025, the Ukrainian political party 'Osnova' underwent a significant transformation, changing its name to 'We Can Do More' and electing a new chairman. Yaroslav Pelikh was chosen to lead the party, expressing his team's readiness to implement beneficial changes for the country. The party is now preparing to participate in upcoming local elections, hoping for a positive outcome. This rebranding effort comes as many Ukrainian political groups seek to renew their public image and platforms.
The party's previous leader, Dmytro Tolstosheiev, who had led 'Osnova' since June 2019, left Ukraine in 2023. During 2024-2025, Tolstosheiev was fined 20,400 hryvnias for failing to submit timely reports to the National Agency on Corruption Prevention. As noted by Andrii Nikolaienko, Tolstosheiev had long wished to step down from the party leadership, as being abroad created significant difficulties in fulfilling reporting obligations.
Integration and Future Plans
The integration process into the 'Osnova' party began in the autumn of 2024, which included the creation of a civic organization named 'We Can Do More'. The new party chairman, Yaroslav Pelikh, who is 45 years old, stated that he believes the next five years will be decisive for the country's future. He expressed hope that his team could bring about positive changes at their level.
- Serhii Taruta, a businessman and founder of the 'Osnova' party, became a Member of Parliament in the 9th convocation of the Verkhovna Rada on the party list of 'Batkivshchyna' (Fatherland).
- In the early presidential elections, Taruta received 0.10% of the vote, placing 19th.
- Andrii Nikolaienko, who also has experience leading the 'Osnova' party, served as an MP from 'Batkivshchyna' from 2017 to 2019, entering parliament as the 19th candidate on the party list.
- In 2023, Nikolaienko was involved in a high-profile case where a car he was driving struck and killed an 18-year-old girl. The court proceedings for this case have been ongoing for two years.
The transformation of 'Osnova' into 'We Can Do More' marks a pivotal stage in its development, featuring new leadership and plans for electoral participation. This step signals the party's attempt to adapt to new political realities and to rebuild voter trust following a period of uncertainty and leadership changes. Its performance in the local elections will serve as a key test for the new team's promises and its ability to achieve its stated goals.
