According to glavcom.ua: The Estonian government is preparing to increase the retirement age for national citizens. Currently, the retirement age in the country is 64 years and nine months, but it will rise to 65 years and one month by 2027. According to the new draft law, starting from 2028, the retirement age will be 65 years and three months.
The Ministry of Social Affairs considers it important to retain the workforce of people over 55 in the labor market due to the aging population. Compared to other European countries, the retirement age in Estonia remains one of the lowest. For example, in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands, it is 67 years.
There is currently a trend worldwide to increase the retirement age to support labor market stability in the context of changing demographics across various countries.
