Poland switches to winter time: what to expect for night train passengers
On the night of October 25 to 26, Poland will again switch to winter time. Clocks need to be set back one hour exactly at three in the morning.
According to Yavp.pl, passengers on night trains should pay special attention to this. A number of railway routes will stop at the nearest stations for a whole hour to compensate for the time change. Thanks to this, the arrival schedule at the final destinations will remain unchanged.
Support for canceling clock changes among Poles
Public opinion in Poland shows a clear stance on this issue. Sociological surveys by the Institute of Market and Social Research show that more than half of Poles – 57.5% – are categorically against the practice of changing time. Another 11% of respondents tend to disapprove of such changes rather than approve of them.
In contrast, full support for changing the clocks was expressed by only 4.7% of those surveyed. Another 15.9% of Poles prefer to retain the current system rather than abolish it. Thus, only about 21% of the population supports the continued biannual clock changes.
The majority of Poles who support canceling the changes prefer summer time. This aligns with scientific studies on the impact of time changes on the human body.
Polish professor Irena Iskra-Goletz notes that seasonal clock changes harm health due to the disruption of the balance between solar, clock, and biological time. This becomes most pronounced during the spring switch to summer time.
It has been scientifically proven that the discrepancy between clock time and biological time in the long term leads to a decrease in lifespan. Moreover, it negatively affects performance, worsens educational achievements, and causes sleep disorders.
Poles are against switching to winter time and support the cancellation of this practice. According to surveys, the majority of the population does not support changing clocks, arguing that it negatively affects people's health and psyche. Polish scientists also claim that such changes may lead to a decrease in lifespan and disruptions in the functioning of the human body.
