Moving to Croatia: a Ukrainian named 5 downsides of living in this country 2025
A Ukrainian woman who moved to Croatia and lived there for a month shared her experience of life in this European country. She named five main downsides she encountered in a short time. This is reported by 24 Channel referencing blog nchuua.
What a Ukrainian didn't like in Croatia
- According to the girl, the first thing that catches the eye is high prices. Everything is more expensive than in Ukraine: products, household items, services.
- The second drawback is toll roads. Although this is a common practice for most EU countries, the travel costs are noticeable.
- It’s also difficult to find long-term rental housing. Most apartments are rented only for the tourist season, and in summer prices for vacationers rise several times.
- Another issue is employment after summer. There are few vacancies even in large cities, so finding a job in the fall is almost impossible.
- And finally, an unexpected downside is the meager selection of coffee and drinks. The Ukrainian admitted she was used to cafes with a diverse menu, while in Croatia the selection is limited to a few items.
Fewer tourists after switching to euros
The publication Croatia Week reports that after Croatia switched to the euro in 2023, the tourist flow is gradually decreasing. The resort regions of Dalmatia, Istria, Split, and Dubrovnik have suffered the most. Tourists from Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia increasingly choose cheaper destinations - Albania, Montenegro, or Bulgaria.
Despite this, the country continues to attract travelers with its natural beauty. One of the most famous beaches in Croatia - Punta Rata in the town of Brela - is called “paradise on earth” due to its clear waters, pine forests, and picturesque cliffs.
Previously, we reported that Fishing on the Danube in Croatia unexpectedly caught an extremely rare sturgeon. This sturgeon, thought to be extinct in Ukraine and locally extinct in the Danube basin, was caught in the biosphere reserve “Mura-Drava-Danube.”
