Document checks on trains to Poland will take place in motion
On trains of Ukrzaliznytsia running to Poland, border control is gradually being transitioned to the format of document checks during motion. Currently, this practice is already in place on certain routes, and from 2026, it is planned to significantly expand. This is reported by inPoland.
As stated by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko, border clearance in motion is currently being conducted on Intercity class trains. This is an experimental format that allows passengers to avoid long stops at the border.
Document checks on trains to Poland: how it works
According to Demchenko, starting from January 2026, border clearance during motion is planned to be implemented on 18 international trains. The new system will cover both entry and exit from Ukraine.
Before the full launch, all services involved in the process need to test the mechanism:
-
border guards;
-
customs officers;
-
Ukrzaliznytsia specialists.
Only after this will the simplified control format begin to operate on a permanent basis.
Which routes are first
First and foremost, the new system will be applied on Intercity trains heading to Poland. Initially, it will concern the following routes:
-
Kyiv – Przemyśl, where it is planned to involve 10 trains;
-
Kyiv – Chełm, on this route, checks during motion will be conducted in 8 trains.
It is expected that the innovation will shorten travel time and make border crossing more comfortable for passengers.
Let us remind you that Ukrzaliznytsia is launching new international trains to Hungary, Austria, and Germany.
