Petrenko on Mobilization: Millions of New Fighters May Join the Armed Forces
Deep systemic changes are needed in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, - Petrenko
Simple strengthening of mobilization, lowering the draft age, or stricter sanctions against draft evaders is a 'dead-end branch of development'. Instead, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need deep systemic changes that will make the army more effective and attractive to volunteers.
According to Petrenko, mechanically increasing the number of mobilized without addressing the internal problems in the army will only lead to mass voluntary departures from units (AFU).
The military emphasized that people are willing to join the military voluntarily, but they choose those units where they see real changes and respect for personnel. He pointed out that volunteers are not only joining well-known brigades, such as the 3rd Assault Brigade, but also other units where modern approaches are being implemented.
'Systemic changes are needed in the army. This includes the management system, treatment of subordinates by commanders, intelligence, planning of combat operations, and medical service,' he explained.
Petrenko is convinced that the key to solving the problem is improving the conditions of service, which has a complex impact on motivation and combat readiness. He added that it is precisely in the units where these changes have been implemented that the lowest casualties are observed relative to the intensity of hostilities, which attracts motivated fighters. In his opinion, such examples should become models for reforming all Armed Forces.
Scandal in the 125th Brigade
Also, let’s recall the scandal in the 125th Brigade: soldiers threaten to leave the Armed Forces due to being transferred to assault troops.
During military conflicts and tense situations, it is important to emphasize the need for deep systemic changes in the Armed Forces. By enhancing motivation and creating an attractive environment for volunteers, the effectiveness and combat readiness of the army can be improved. The presence of real changes and modernized units becomes key factors in attracting motivated fighters to service.
