Ukraine elected to the Executive Council of the CWC: Russia loses for the third time in a row
At the 30th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention in The Hague, the Ukrainian delegation emphasized an important result — Ukraine, Slovenia, and Slovakia have been elected to the Executive Council for the years 2026-2028! This means Russia has lost for the third time in a row.
Work at the session
Today, the Ukrainian delegation continued its active participation in the session, advocating for Ukraine's election to the Executive Council and highlighting the real experience of responding to chemical threats due to Russian aggression.
Ukraine has proven itself to be a responsible participant in the convention and a reliable partner in non-proliferation issues;
Ukraine's experience in responding to chemical threats has been a key argument in support of its candidacy;
Russia continues to violate international norms and rights, and this should have consequences.
As a result of the voting, Ukraine, Slovenia, and Slovakia were elected to the Executive Council for the next two years.
Meetings and discussions
After the voting, meetings were held with representatives of partner countries to discuss future cooperation within the Executive Council and other issues of mutual interest. The possibilities for strengthening arms control and fulfilling international obligations were also discussed.
Russia must be held accountable for its actions and violations of international norms and conventions.
Ukraine is determined to continue the fight against chemical weapons both on the frontline and in diplomatic efforts. We thank our international partners for their support in this important matter and believe in safety and peace for all!
