Ukraine's Deep Freeze to Ease, Snow to Return After January 22
Weather Forecast for Ukraine After January 22
According to ДСНС: Ukraine's current severe cold spell is expected to moderate after January 22, with snow returning to the country. This shift is due to the influence of an anticyclone arriving from the northeast. According to meteorologist Natalia Ptukha, the next few days will remain frosty, but a noticeable easing of the cold is anticipated after the 22nd.
Temperature Variations Across Regions
In northern regions and the Vinnytsia oblast, overnight lows could plunge to -20 degrees Celsius, with daytime temperatures ranging from -6 to -11 degrees. Elsewhere, nighttime temperatures will drop to between -8 and -13 degrees, with daytime highs of -3 to -8 degrees. In the Zakarpattia region, daytime temperatures may even climb to around 0 degrees.
Snowfall is forecast to return across Ukraine starting January 23, restoring a more typical winter landscape.
The changing conditions are linked to anticyclones, which typically bring cold, dry air. This winter has been particularly challenging for Ukraine's infrastructure. The return of snow after the cold eases could benefit agriculture by providing essential soil moisture. However, the ongoing severe nighttime frosts may continue to strain energy systems and pose difficulties for the population, especially amid heightened winter energy demands.
