New Power Rationing Rules for Businesses and Households to Begin in 2026
Introduction of Scheduled Power Outages
According to Главком: Beginning February 3, 2026, Ukraine will implement scheduled power outages and capacity limits for industrial consumers. These measures are a direct response to the damage inflicted on the country's energy infrastructure by Russian missile and drone attacks, which have severely undermined the stability of the national power grid. All regions of Ukraine will be affected, and consumers must prepare for changes to their electricity supply schedules. This move reflects the ongoing strain on Ukraine's energy sector as it continues to defend its infrastructure.
On February 2, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that energy workers had restored the power system to its pre-disruption state following a major technical failure on January 31. Despite this restoration, the new electricity consumption restrictions remain necessary. In light of this, businesses can access a government support package. Specifically, individual entrepreneurs can receive payments of up to 15,000 hryvnias, as well as zero-interest loans for purchasing energy equipment.
Support Programs and Official Guidance
A separate support program for apartment buildings, named "SvitloDim" (LightHouse), also launched on January 30 to ensure autonomous power supply during prolonged outages. Given the upcoming changes to the energy system, Ukrenergo urges consumers to check the official websites of their regional power distribution companies (oblenergos) for specific outage times and durations. It is crucial to use electricity sparingly, especially during the scheduled hours when power is available.
The implementation of scheduled power cuts is a necessary response to the severe challenges facing Ukraine's energy system amid ongoing military aggression. While this decision is essential for grid stability, it will significantly impact both the business environment and daily civilian life. Alongside the restrictions, the government is rolling out support programs in an effort to mitigate the effects of the energy crisis for the population and enterprises. For consumers, staying informed about outage schedules and actively adopting energy-saving practices is now more important than ever.
