A strict ban on cars in nature reserves has been introduced in Ukraine: how much will the violation cost
From August 1, a new ban came into force in Ukraine – now vehicle movement is prohibited in nature reserves. This means that driving in protected areas is allowed only with a special permit; otherwise, expect fines and compensation for damage to the environment.
According to article No. 4188-IX, violators will receive fines ranging from 153 to 510 hryvnias, depending on their status. In addition, drivers will pay extra for every 100 meters of movement, depending on the type of their vehicle:
— motorcycles and mopeds — 4,020.80 UAH,
— passenger cars, pickups, and minibuses — 6,428.80 UAH,
— trucks and buses — 8,848 UAH.
Exceptions to the rule
Fortunately, the rule does not apply to employees of environmental protection institutions, local authorities, police, and other special services, as well as those servicing infrastructure facilities in nature reserves. Also, landowners and users in nature reserves have the right to pass. However, drivers should remember that transporting animals in a vehicle can also lead to fines and even detention.
The resolution prohibiting movement in nature reserves from August 1 in Ukraine should be perceived as an attempt to protect the environment from the negative impact of humans and vehicles. The new rules provide for not only fines but also compensation for damage to the environment, which will contribute to the preservation of the unique flora and fauna in these unique ecosystems.
