The President of Finland: Trump has shaken Europe more than Putin
The President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, stated that Donald Trump's policy on the international stage has shaken Europe more than the actions of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. In an interview with Yle, he emphasized that it was the American president who made European countries act more actively in foreign policy, while Putin pushed them to rethink security issues.
'Trump has awakened Europe in foreign policy, while Putin has done so in the security sphere. If we look at NATO's defense spending, we can see that Europe is preparing for the worst because of Putin. At the same time, Trump has successfully pressured Europe to increase its defense spending,' Stubb noted.
He stressed that Moscow has suffered a serious defeat in its strategic goals. 'This is probably the largest strategic geopolitical failure in recent history,' the Finnish president stated. According to him, Putin has not achieved any of the set goals, but instead contributed to the unification of Europe, the expansion of NATO with Finland and Sweden joining, and the increase of alliance defense spending from two to five percent of GDP.
Control over the Donetsk region and the war in Ukraine
Stubb also reminded that the Kremlin has been trying to establish control over the Donetsk region of Ukraine for more than a decade. 'He has been trying to seize the Donetsk region for 12 years, half of which he actually occupied even before the war began,' he said, emphasizing Putin's inability to realize his territorial ambitions.
Earlier, Trump spoke about ending the war in Ukraine and the meeting between Zelensky and Putin.
During the interview, American President Donald Trump recognized his role in pressuring European countries to increase defense spending. The current President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, noted that Trump's policy has activated Europe in the sphere of foreign policy, while the actions of Russian leader Vladimir Putin encouraged a rethinking of security issues. At the same time, the Finnish president reasonably emphasized that the Moscow leader is far from achieving his territorial ambitions in the region.
