Fare Hikes Hit Kyiv's Commuter Routes: New Prices for Popular Destinations

Suburban minibuses in Kyiv region become more expensive: new tariffs
Ціни на проїзд в Київських маршрутках зросли: нові тарифи для найпопулярніших напрямків.

Rising Costs for Commuter Minibus Travel

According to Главком: Residents in the Kyiv region are now facing higher fares for their daily commutes. The price for a trip between Irpin and Kyiv has now been set at 80 UAH. Transport operators cite increased fuel costs and vehicle maintenance expenses as the primary reasons for the fare adjustments.

Updated Fares for Key Routes

In addition to the Irpin-Kyiv route, fares have also risen for minibuses connecting Vyshhorod and Kyiv, now costing 60 UAH. Furthermore, from March 13th, fares on Kyiv's Circle Railway increased by 5-7 UAH, though users of the 'Ukrzaliznytsia' and 'Kyiv Digital' apps can still purchase a ticket for the old price of 15 UAH. These changes come as Ukraine's transport sector grapples with widespread inflationary pressures.

The updated pricing for several popular routes is as follows:

  • Kyiv – Irpin: 80 UAH;
  • Kyiv – Vodokanal/Romanivka: 60 UAH;
  • City travel: 20 UAH.

Fares from other settlements to the capital vary:

  • Vyshneve, Novi Petrivtsi – 80 UAH;
  • Bucha, Hostomel, Horenichi – 95 UAH;
  • Vorzel, Boyarka – 100 UAH;
  • Boryspil, Nemishayeve, Kalynivka – 130 UAH;
  • Dymer, Klavdiyevo – 140 UAH;
  • Kodra, Novе Zalissia – 155–185 UAH.

For commuters seeking alternatives, electric trains (elektrychkas) run to the Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi station from directions such as Malyn, Korosten, and Nizhyn. There are also services to the Svyatoshyn and Borshchahivka stations, specifically from Teterev and Klavdiyevo. Separately, some private carriers in the capital have begun testing cashless payment terminals, which could simplify the fare process for passengers.

The fare increases for suburban minibuses reflect broader trends in rising transport costs across Ukraine, driven by higher fuel prices and other operational expenses. This is likely to impact the mobility of regional residents, especially daily commuters traveling to the capital for work or study. Alternative options like electric trains may gain popularity as minibus fares rise, potentially stimulating further development of public transport infrastructure in the Kyiv region.

As commuters adjust to the new fare structure, understanding how to navigate the rising costs of travel becomes essential. For those who frequently use the Circle Railway in Kyiv, knowing how to purchase tickets at previous prices can provide significant savings amidst the ongoing inflation. This knowledge may help ease the financial burden during these challenging economic times.
