  • The Copa del Rey
  • Three Spanish Super Cups

  • The FIFA Club World Cup

He also played for New York Red Bulls, León, and Verona before concluding his playing career back at Atlas. Following his retirement, Márquez served as Atlas's sporting director for a year and worked on youth development at Spain's Alcalá. From 2022 to 2024, he coached Barcelona's reserve team.

Mexico's Prospects for the World Cup

The Mexican national team has qualified for its ninth consecutive World Cup. Mexico's best World Cup finish is the quarter-finals, an achievement they have reached twice. In the 2026 tournament, Mexico will compete in Group A against South Africa, South Korea, and the Czech Republic. Mexico will open the World Cup with a match against South Africa on June 11. The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, offering a unique home-field advantage.

“The contract with Rafael is already signed. As an assistant coach, he is the same as he was as a player-he transforms the team.”
