Russia Strikes Mondelez Plant in Ukraine, Targeting U.S. Businesses, Says Foreign Minister
Missile Attack on Mondelez International Facility
According to Главком: Russian forces launched a missile strike on a civilian production facility owned by Mondelez International in the city of Trostianets, Sumy region. Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, confirmed the site held no military value and that the strike, which hit one of the plant's production buildings, resulted in no casualties. This attack is part of a broader pattern of Russian aggression against civilian infrastructure.
Deliberate Targeting of International Companies
Foreign Minister Sybiha stated that Russia is deliberately targeting American enterprises operating in Ukraine. He cited a prior attack on a Flex factory in Mukachevo on August 21, 2025, which caused a major fire. The minister argued that by attacking these facilities, Russian forces are not only assaulting the Ukrainian people but also targeting American taxpayers, aiming to damage the U.S. economy.
Since the full-scale invasion began, 47% of companies in Ukraine have suffered damage, with 38% of those incidents involving employee fatalities. Sybiha stressed the critical need to protect both businesses and their workers, as such strikes cause profound human and economic harm. He listed other affected international operations, including:
- A Boeing office in Kyiv
- A Bunge production facility in Dnipro
This assault on a civilian object underscores the severe risks faced by international companies operating in a war zone. Strikes on non-military targets raise serious concerns for both the Ukrainian population and foreign investors, potentially undermining confidence in the country's business environment. Analysts view these actions as part of a Russian strategy to destabilize not only Ukraine's economy but also to create ripple effects in the global market, further isolating the aggressor state.
