Poltava Region's Energy Infrastructure Struck

According to Главком: On February 20, Russian military forces launched an attack against oil and gas infrastructure in Ukraine's Poltava region, resulting in significant damage and a fire at the site. Emergency response teams from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) are currently on the scene working to contain the aftermath of the strike. These attacks form part of a wider Russian campaign to degrade Ukraine's critical energy sector.

This latest incident follows a series of earlier assaults. On February 9, Russian troops hit Naftogaz facilities in the Poltava and Sumy regions, damaging and destroying equipment, though no casualties were reported. Furthermore, on the night of February 8, Russian drone attacks targeted Naftogaz assets in Poltava, also leading to the destruction of infrastructure and equipment.

Escalating Assaults on Naftogaz Facilities

According to available data, Russian forces have carried out 229 attacks on Naftogaz facilities in 2025 alone. This figure surpasses the total number of attacks recorded over the previous three years combined. Naftogaz representative Serhiy Koretskyi stated:

“This is another deliberate strike on our oil and gas infrastructure. Sincere gratitude to the SESU and Naftogaz crews who are mitigating the consequences of these attacks; they are working at the limit of their capabilities under the constant threat of repeated shelling.” - Serhiy Koretskyi
