Drone Strikes by Russia Kill Civilians and Damage Infrastructure in Odesa and Zaporizhzhia
Strikes Target Odesa and Zaporizhzhia Region
According to Главком: On the night of January 29, Russian forces carried out attacks using strike drones on Odesa and the Zaporizhzhia region. An infrastructure facility was damaged in Odesa, though no injuries were reported there. Simultaneously, Russian troops targeted the Zaporizhzhia region with drones, specifically hitting the private residential sector of the town of Vilniansk.
The attack on Vilniansk destroyed several houses and sparked fires. Preliminary reports indicate three people were killed in this strike: two women and a man. One other person was injured.
Attack on Pivdennyi Port
In a separate incident on the night of January 28, the Russian army attacked the Pivdennyi Port in Odesa Oblast, damaging production and railway infrastructure facilities. Russian forces also struck the Sviato-Uspenskyi men's monastery, damaging a dairy workshop and a farmyard.
In response to these attacks, Serhii Lysak, a local official, stated:
"All city services and public transport are operating normally, and utility services continue to eliminate the consequences of the bad weather and previous enemy attacks." - Serhii Lysak
These assaults are part of a pattern of intensified military action in southern and eastern Ukraine, raising serious concerns for civilian safety and critical infrastructure. The ongoing conflict has seen a significant increase in the use of drones and long-range strikes against both military and civilian targets. The emphasis on maintaining municipal services highlights local authorities' efforts to sustain city operations under the difficult conditions of war.
