Railway Infrastructure in Sumy Region Hit by Drone Attack

According to Кулеба: Overnight, Russian forces launched a drone assault on railway infrastructure within Ukraine's Sumy region. While the attack caused damage to facilities, train services have since been restored. The strikes occurred in an area where Ukrainian towns and villages have repeatedly come under fire. In the Shostka district, a railway station attendant was injured while traveling to work.

The attack also struck a 'Resilience Carriage,' a shelter wagon where people were present at the time. Railway buildings and a locomotive sustained damage, with emergency medical aid provided to the wounded. The assault further targeted the railway's power supply infrastructure.

Impact on Rail Transport and Recovery Efforts

Separately, drones hit a railway station in the Okhtyrka district, damaging technical buildings and tracks. Despite the destruction, railway workers managed to resume train operations once security conditions improved, with repairs now underway. The Sumy region, which borders Russia, has been a frequent target since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.

This incident underscores the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine and the persistent threats facing the country's critical infrastructure. The rapid restoration of service highlights the resilience and adaptability of Ukrainian railway personnel operating under constant threat.

These aggressive actions aim to destabilize the transport network, which could have severe consequences for the local economy and the daily lives of communities.
