Russian March 14th Attack on Kherson Kills One, Injures Children, and Targets Energy Grid
Civilian Toll of Kherson Shelling
According to Главком: On March 14, 2026, Russian military forces shelled the city of Kherson, inflicting numerous civilian casualties, including children. A 51-year-old man died in the village of Inzhenerne from wounds sustained the previous day. This assault was part of a massive, coordinated strike across Ukraine that began overnight, which notably targeted the energy infrastructure supplying the Kyiv region. These attacks on critical infrastructure represent a recurring tactic in the conflict, aiming to disrupt civilian life during the winter months.
The shelling in Kherson directly harmed civilians in their homes. At 09:00, residential areas in the Dnipro district were hit, wounding three women inside their own apartments; they were hospitalized in moderate condition. Later, at 10:00, the city center was struck, injuring children. Explosions rang out again in the center at 11:00, wounding a man and three women who were diagnosed with concussions and shrapnel injuries.
Attack Aftermath and Recovery Efforts
A further series of explosions occurred in the city center at 11:50. Two more people were injured: a woman was taken to the hospital, and a man received on-site aid. Among the wounded were a 12-year-old girl and two boys, aged 11 and 13. All the children were diagnosed with blast injuries and acute stress reactions; the 11-year-old boy sustained a shrapnel wound to the head and they remain under medical supervision.
Recovery operations are ongoing in the regions of Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Mykolaiv following the large-scale Russian strike.
"Right now, in the Kyiv region, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Mykolaiv regions, the aftermath of a massive Russian strike is being dealt with. All necessary services are involved," stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
These events underscore the continued aggression and threat to civilians in Ukraine.
The shelling of Kherson and other cities highlights an escalation in the conflict, where civilians are again becoming victims of military action. Strikes on residential neighborhoods cause serious humanitarian consequences, including injuries among children. The renewed attacks on energy infrastructure indicate a worsening situation with potential long-term impacts on the population's livelihood. Mitigating the effects of these assaults requires significant effort from the state and emergency services, emphasizing the critical need for sustained international support.
