Russian Drones Strike Naftogaz Gas Production Site in Poltava Region
Strike on Naftogaz's Gas Extraction Facility
According to Главком: On July 4, Russian drones targeted a gas production asset owned by Naftogaz in the Poltava region. The attack sparked a fire at the site, forcing a halt to all operations. All personnel moved to shelters, and preliminary reports indicate no casualties. Poltava Regional Military Administration head Vitaliy Dyakivnych confirmed the drone strike on an industrial facility in the Poltava district.
Recurring Attacks on Infrastructure
This is not the first time the facility has been hit. According to Naftogaz, 'this site has repeatedly been a target of Russian attacks. The enemy systematically strikes gas production, aiming to reduce Ukraine's own output and complicate preparations for the heating season.' The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Over the past two days, Russian forces have launched massive strikes on Naftogaz's gas infrastructure in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions, using at least four ballistic missiles and attack drones. On June 24, Ukrnafta's filling stations in the Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions were also hit, along with gas production assets in Poltava. A female employee at one of the filling stations sustained serious injuries from an attack drone on June 24.
According to Vitaliy Dyakivnych, no one was hurt in the latest attack.
These strikes are part of Russia's systematic campaign to destabilize Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which could have severe consequences for the country's energy security, especially as it prepares for the winter heating season. Given the frequency of such assaults, Ukrainian energy companies face constant threats that disrupt operations and damage the economy.
These recent strikes underscore a troubling pattern of aggression targeting Ukraine's energy sector.
