Massive Strike Targets Kyiv's Energy Infrastructure

According to Главком: In a large-scale overnight assault on February 3rd, Russian forces targeted Kyiv's critical energy facilities, causing severe damage to the heating system and cutting off the heat supply. The Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts of the capital were hit hardest, with 1,170 high-rise apartment buildings losing their heating. This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure during the winter months.

The attack resulted in injuries to five Kyiv residents. Specifically, a man and a woman with lacerations were hospitalized after their building was damaged in the Dniprovskyi district. The strikes also caused damage in the Kyiv region, as well as in the cities of Dnipro, Sumy, and Konotop. In Konotop, the damage included:

  • a children's educational institution,
  • private homes,
  • and other structures.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that a total of 1,170 apartment buildings across the city are currently without heating. The situation remains critical, as the consequences of the attack require urgent resolution to restore normal living conditions for the capital's residents.

Impact of the Attack on the Civilian Population

This strike on Kyiv's energy infrastructure underscores the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its direct impact on civilians. The loss of heating in the middle of winter poses severe health risks to residents, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children. City authorities and emergency services are now under pressure to respond immediately to ensure the safety and basic comfort of Kyiv's inhabitants.
