Israel Refuses to Unload Vessel Carrying Stolen Ukrainian Grain, Says Foreign Minister Sybiha
Israel Blocks Unloading of the PANORMITIS Ship
According to МЗС: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that the vessel PANORMITIS, which is illegally transporting grain from Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories, will not be permitted to unload its cargo in Israel. The minister hailed this decision as a positive development, demonstrating the effectiveness of Ukraine's legal and diplomatic efforts.
Sybiha also emphasized that this move sends a clear warning to all other ships, captains, operators, insurers, and governments:
“Do not buy stolen Ukrainian grain. Do not become an accomplice to this crime.” - Andrii Sybiha
He stressed that Ukraine continues to monitor the PANORMITIS and cautioned all parties against any cooperation with the vessel.
Stepping Up Sanctions Pressure
Furthermore, the minister stated that Ukraine will intensify sanctions pressure on Russia's shadow fleet involved in grain smuggling.
This incident underscores the importance of international support for Ukraine in combating the illegal export of grain from occupied territories. Israel's refusal to accept the PANORMITIS could serve as a precedent for other nations, showing that the global community is willing to respond to aggression and violations of international law. Such actions may significantly impact Russia's economy and reduce opportunities for smuggling Ukrainian resources.
This decisive action by Israel follows Ukraine's formal request for intervention regarding a vessel implicated in the illicit grain trade.
