Ukraine's Foreign Minister Urges Allies to Intensify Pressure on Russia Ahead of Invasion Anniversary
Ukrainian Foreign Minister's Interview
According to МЗС: In an interview with POLITICO, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on international partners to increase pressure on Russia as the fourth anniversary of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine approaches. Sybiha stressed that the consequences of this war must become a direct threat to the regime of President Vladimir Putin. This appeal comes at a critical juncture, as Western support for Ukraine faces political challenges in several key allied nations.
Consequences of the War
The Minister argued that Putin must be made to understand that his actions will lead to heightened internal tensions and a decline in support within Russian society. This erosion, he stated, would be driven by:
- mounting economic hardships,
- mounting war casualties,
- and declining household incomes.
Sybiha noted that a key outcome would be the internal decay of Putin's regime, as his inner circle begins to dissociate their own futures from his leadership.
"Strength is the only language Russia understands" – Andrii Sybiha
The Foreign Minister emphasized that Putin must be forced to acknowledge he will not achieve his goals in Ukraine or within the transatlantic community. Sybiha believes that amplified transatlantic pressure on Moscow could significantly alter the situation across military, economic, and political domains, as well as deepen Russia's international isolation.
The views expressed by Ukraine's top diplomat reflect Kyiv's strategy of galvanizing international action to counter Russian aggression. With the fourth anniversary of the full-scale war looming, this stance is likely to form the basis for further coalition-building aimed at securing more decisive measures against the Kremlin. It is also important to note that shifts in Russian public sentiment could have profound long-term implications for the country's political stability.
