Ukraine’s Armed Forces Set Three Strategic Priorities

According to ХВИЛЯ: In an interview with the British publication The Times, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi outlined three strategic objectives for the country’s military in countering Russian aggression. The first goal is to inflict daily losses on Russian forces exceeding one thousand personnel killed and wounded. As Syrskyi stated,

“Our daily task is to ensure the enemy suffers more than a thousand casualties-killed and wounded.”

Core Objectives

The second strategic priority involves striking Russia’s oil refining and extraction infrastructure. This aims to weaken the enemy’s economy and offensive capacity, depriving Moscow of resources to fund the war. The third objective is to destroy Russian military logistics at depths exceeding 250 kilometers, a tactic referred to as a middle strike.

According to available data, Russia’s total offensive force in Ukraine stands at 721,300 personnel. Syrskyi also noted that Russian troops are employing a “thousand cuts” tactic, attempting to push as far as possible into Ukrainian defensive lines. Currently, Russia is deploying 6,000 to 7,000 FPV drones, with plans to increase that number to 33,000 by year’s end. This reflects an intensification of technological warfare methods by Russia.

Amid ongoing combat, Ukrainian infantry soldiers sometimes have to march 10 to 15 kilometers on foot to reach the front line, highlighting the difficult conditions on the battlefield. Overall, the strategic tasks defined by Syrskyi underscore the importance of a systematic approach to military operations and the need to adapt to emerging challenges.

These strategic goals reflect not only the immediate needs of Ukraine’s forces but also efforts to counter Russian aggression using new technologies and tactics. Setting daily Russian troop losses as a target signals a long-term aim to degrade the enemy, which could significantly shape the course of hostilities. At the same time, strikes on critical infrastructure may substantially increase the economic burden on Moscow, further impacting its military capabilities.

As Ukraine’s military strategy evolves, understanding the current composition of Russian forces becomes essential. Insights from the Commander-in-Chief regarding troop numbers provide valuable context to the challenges faced on the battlefield and the implications for ongoing operations.
