Biathlete Simon Disqualified for Six Months: What Happened to the Star
French biathlon star Julia Simon has become the target of sanctions from the French Ski Federation (FFS) but remains eligible to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, reports 'Glavkom'.
On Thursday, November 6, 2025, FFS announced that it had disqualified the biathlete for six months due to criminal prosecution. 'Conditional five months will prohibit her from participating in competitions, with the condition of missing only the first start of the season in Swedish Östersund,' the news states.
Simon must also pay a fine of 30 thousand euros for fraud and theft of her teammate Justine Bresa-Boucher's bank card.
Although there is an option to appeal the decision, the athlete's lawyer confirmed that they decided not to contest it and will not join the process, in order to focus on upcoming competitions.
Court Decision Regarding Julia Simon
The court sentenced Julia Simon to three months of conditional imprisonment and a fine of 15 thousand euros in connection with thefts and fraud. The decision was announced on Friday, October 24, and includes compensation for expenses to her teammate and the federation.
The prosecutor initially proposed shorter prison terms and a higher fine. The verdict was accepted after Simon was charged with credit card theft and fraud, which included five counts.
Julia Simon, who is a ten-time world champion and Olympic medalist, does not plan to appeal the court's decision in order to concentrate on sports achievements.
Ukrainians are known for their activism regarding anti-doping programs and fighting against violations in sports, including modern technologies. In this case, Simon's isolation may serve as a signal to all athletes, reminding them of the importance of adhering to ethics and rules in light of strict sanctions for violations. Despite success in sports arenas, no one is exempt from responsibility before the law and sports regulations.
