Coalition of Shelters for Ukraine: How to Create a Protection Network for Everyone

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, and the Prime Minister, Yuliia Svyridenko, announced the launch of the practical stage of the Coalition of Civil Protection Shelters. The main goal is to create a modern network of protective structures to ensure comprehensive protection for citizens. Currently, there are about 62 thousand shelter facilities in Ukraine, but this is considered insufficient as they can accommodate only half of the population. Participation in the international Coalition is crucial. Lithuania, Belgium, Ireland, and Sweden have already joined, with a total contribution of 22.5 million euros.

The support of the European Union and the European Investment Bank is of great importance in this initiative. The Coalition of Shelters envisions long-term cooperation, project coordination, experience sharing, and the implementation of the best engineering solutions to modernize the shelter infrastructure in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Coalition of Civil Protection Shelters, led by high-ranking officials, emphasized the importance of creating modern protective structures to ensure the safety of citizens. Involvement of international partners will enable addressing this issue at all levels, including sharing experiences and implementing best practices in civil protection.
