From a Volyn Village to 20,000 Followers: The Rise of a Rural Lifestyle Blog
According to Главком: Natalia Dmytruk, known by the pseudonym Solokha, lives in the village of Karpylivka in the Kamian-Kashyrskyi district of Volyn Oblast and runs a successful blog about rural life. Her content, which focuses on homesteading, shows her feeding livestock, preparing meals, and sharing recipes. Her engaging posts and videos have attracted nearly 20,000 subscribers, a dramatic increase from just 1,000 followers back in May. This growth mirrors a wider trend of renewed interest in traditional, self-sufficient living.
Content and Popularity
In her videos, Natalia frequently demonstrates cooking with her own produce. She explains:
“Sometimes it's country-style meat, sometimes pork from our own pigs, homemade cheese, boiled porcini mushrooms and onions. Everything is homemade, not fancy French cuisine... and stuffed cabbage rolls. I stoked the stove, and into the oven will go the cabbage rolls, the meat, and the pastries”
- Natalia Dmytruk. Her content also features moments with her cats Stepan, Volodko, and Murka, who often appear on camera.
The pseudonym Solokha was not chosen by chance: Natalia won a contest with that name at a relative's wedding. She recalls her initial struggle with handling online negativity:
“I'd go into a live stream and get hate comments like 'what are you doing here, what are you filming?' I didn't even know how to turn off that phone, how to exit TikTok. But then I saw that people were listening to me, watching me. It meant my content resonated with them”
- Natalia Dmytruk. This shows her authentic content has truly connected with viewers, making her blog popular on TikTok.
The blog's surge in popularity reflects a broader trend of growing interest in rural life and traditional crafts in Ukraine. Followers not only get recipes and advice but can also immerse themselves in an atmosphere of rustic idyll, which holds undeniable appeal in the modern world. Such initiatives help popularize Ukrainian culture and traditions while sustaining youth interest in the agricultural sector. This can become an important factor in developing rural areas and raising awareness about Ukrainian agriculture.
