Sony AI Unveils Autonomous Robot Ace

According to Главком: Sony AI has introduced an autonomous robot named Ace, capable of competing against professional table tennis players. This cutting-edge device is equipped with nine synchronized cameras and three computer vision systems, enabling it to analyze gameplay and make real-time decisions with remarkable efficiency. Ace has achieved impressive results, successfully returning 75% of opponents' spin shots.

In trials against elite amateur players who train approximately 20 hours per week, the robot won three out of five matches. Furthermore, as of March–April 2026, Ace began consistently defeating top-tier professional players, highlighting significant advancements in artificial intelligence technology. This marks a notable step forward in AI's ability to handle fast-paced, physically demanding tasks.

“The ability of artificial intelligence to perceive, plan, and act in a dynamic real-world environment at human speed is key to creating machines capable of complex interaction with people.”

It is also worth noting that a half-marathon recently held in Beijing was won by a robot, further demonstrating that AI technologies continue to evolve and find applications across various fields, including sports.

Future Prospects for Autonomous Robots

The development of autonomous robots like Ace showcases the potential of artificial intelligence in sports competitions and other domains. Human-versus-machine contests are becoming increasingly popular, which could reshape the future of sports by driving greater interest in technology and its applications.

These events open up new possibilities for integrating AI into various aspects of life, including sports, entertainment, and education.
