US Ultimatum to Ukraine
The USA has issued Ukraine an ultimatum: agree to the security plan by November 27. The United States has provided Ukraine with two draft documents that are part of a future agreement and a new security system, with strict deadlines for approval. It is noted that the USA expects the proposed plan to be ratified by the end of this month.
On November 19, a group of American officials arrived in Kyiv, led by the Minister of the Army, Daniel Driscoll. Donald Trump appointed Driscoll as his de facto 'envoy' to promote the new settlement strategy. During the negotiations, the American side clearly emphasized the deadlines, stating that
“we were told directly: either you approve the document by the specified date, or the United States will cease assistance”
- Daniel Driscoll.
Key Documents and Their Importance
As part of the ultimatum, the USA presented two key documents:
- The first document contains 28 points relating to territorial control and security regime.
- The second document, draft 'Framework Agreement on Security Guarantees for Ukraine', is based on the principles of NATO Article 5. This agreement provides 10-year security guarantees for Ukraine.
Donald Trump publicly confirmed the tough line by stating that 'Ukraine is losing territory.'
The ultimatum, which changed the negotiating dynamics, has become an important step in shaping a new security architecture in the region. The Ukrainian side must urgently make decisions regarding the proposed initiatives, as this will significantly affect further cooperation with the USA and international partners.
The security situation in Ukraine remains critically important, as the approval of the US plan could significantly impact the country's stability and territorial integrity. In the event of refusal or delay in approval, Ukraine risks losing support from the USA, which could affect its capabilities in countering external threats. This ultimatum highlights the importance of swift decision-making in conditions of geopolitical tension.
