Trump's Image to Feature on U.S. 250th Anniversary Gold Coin
Design Approval for Commemorative Coin
According to Главком: The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts has approved the design for a commemorative gold coin featuring former President Donald Trump. This release is planned to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the United States, which will be celebrated in 2026. Final approval for the design must be granted by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
The coin will be crafted from 24-karat gold. The obverse side will depict Donald Trump in the Oval Office, along with the years 1776 and 2026. The reverse side of the coin will feature the national symbol of the United States, the bald eagle. The final decision on issuing the coin rests with the Secretary of the Treasury, who considers recommendations from the commission and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.
Controversial Reactions to the Design Choice
Notably, members of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee expressed opposition to the use of Trump's image. However, commission representatives argued that 'there is no more symbolic profile for the face of such coins than the profile of our former President Donald Trump,' stated Brandon Beach. Commemorative coins are a common way for the U.S. Mint to honor historical figures and events, though selections often spark public debate.
In October 2025, the U.S. Department of the Treasury also unveiled the design for a collectible one-dollar coin featuring Trump's likeness.
The planned release of this anniversary coin is part of a tradition of honoring prominent personalities and events in the nation's history. The choice of Donald Trump as the subject has generated controversy, as not all committee members support the idea. This decision may influence public opinion regarding commemorative objects and how future generations perceive U.S. history. The public awaits the final approval from the Treasury Department to see if the coin will be issued as scheduled.
