Igor Kolomoisky's Legal Challenge

According to Главком: A Kyiv court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by lawyers for Igor Kolomoisky, which sought to compel Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) to open a criminal investigation into a possible assassination attempt against the businessman. Kolomoisky, who is currently in pre-trial detention on suspicion of financial crimes, had attempted to challenge the SBU's decision, but the court rejected his claim. This case highlights the ongoing legal battles involving one of Ukraine's most prominent pre-war oligarchs.

The Security Service of Ukraine had previously stated it would not initiate criminal proceedings regarding the alleged plot against Kolomoisky. In January 2023, the SBU announced it would not transport the businessman to a hearing of a temporary investigative commission, citing intelligence about a planned attack.

"In view of the above and for the purpose of saving Igor Valeriyovych Kolomoisky, delivering him to the session hall of the Kyiv City Council is not considered possible" – Security Service of Ukraine.

Financial Crimes and Detention

Igor Kolomoisky is being held in custody on suspicion of financial crimes, including the siphoning of funds from PrivatBank. In September 2023, law enforcement officials served him with a notice of suspicion on several charges related to money laundering and fraud. It is known that between 2013 and 2020, Kolomoisky legalized over half a billion hryvnias and transferred the funds abroad.

Furthermore, Kolomoisky received another notice of suspicion, and the court extended his detention. According to the court's ruling, the businessman is to remain in custody with the alternative of a bail set at 3 billion 712 thousand hryvnias, though this amount was later reduced.

  • Kolomoisky has claimed that on December 8 and 9, 2025, he plans to reveal information about corruption involving President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his inner circle, as well as details concerning the case of businessman Timur Mindich.

The situation surrounding Igor Kolomoisky remains tense as he continues to contest decisions within Ukraine's legal system. The court's refusal to force the SBU's hand may signal that authorities are maintaining a firm stance regarding the serious allegations against him. Simultaneously, his promises to expose high-level corruption could potentially trigger new investigations and intensify the political climate in Ukraine.
