Taiwan to restrict imports of Russian oil: in response to international pressure
Taiwan restricts imports of Russian oil
The Taiwanese government has decided to reduce imports of Russian oil in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. According to Ukrinform, the Taiwanese government is urging local companies to limit purchases of Russian oil.
The statement from the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs: 'The import of Russian petrochemical raw materials is currently not subject to restrictions imposed by the Taiwanese government.'
Although Taiwan was one of the largest buyers of Russian oil, state-owned enterprises in the country stopped purchasing crude oil from Russia in 2023. The Taipei Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses readiness to cooperate with other democratic countries in enforcing anti-Russian sanctions and to impose new restrictions on imports of Russian oil if necessary.
Taiwan and sanctions against Russia
After Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Taiwan has strengthened its control over the export of high-tech products to the RF and included over 3300 Russian enterprises in the 'blacklist'. New restrictions on oil imports from Russia have become a logical step for Taiwan to continue cooperation with democratic partners.
Taiwan's measures to restrict imports of Russian oil are a reaction to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This demonstrates the country's attempt to join the sanctions pressure on Russia from other nations, as well as support for democratic values and the international coalition against aggression.
