Tom Hiddleston Meets Ukrainian Refugee Children and Mothers in Moldova
Tom Hiddleston’s Visit to Chișinău
According to Главком: British actor and UNICEF Ambassador Tom Hiddleston traveled to Chișinău, where he met with Ukrainian refugee children and their mothers. The visit was part of UNICEF’s ongoing efforts, which have established safe spaces for children since the start of the full-scale war. Hiddleston toured schools and educational centers set up with UNICEF’s support, speaking with children and their families.
Engaging with Children and Mothers
During his trip, the actor visited the Divertis day center, where he met nine-year-old Milana and her mother Yuliya, who fled Kherson after the war began. Milana continues her education through an online Ukrainian curriculum, allowing her to keep learning despite her new circumstances. Hiddleston noted that children in these programs
“are thriving, they are learning, they are free, they have rich imaginations, they feel safe and seem like happy children”

The actor also expressed empathy for the mothers who endured immense hardships to protect their children.
“Mothers spoke about incredible difficulties, the circumstances they found themselves in - everything they had to overcome to protect their children and get them to a safe place,”
Hiddleston added.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, approximately 9.7 million people have been displaced from their homes, and Moldova has opened its borders to Ukrainian families. Footage from Hiddleston’s trip will be featured during the Soccer Aid for UNICEF charity football match on May 31. This will mark the actor’s third time participating in the event to support children affected by war.
Hiddleston’s visit to Chișinău highlights the critical role of international support for Ukrainian refugee children facing the consequences of war. UNICEF’s work in the region not only provides education but also fosters a safe environment for children who have experienced trauma. It also reflects global solidarity in advocating for children’s rights during crises.
