Tomahawk for Ukraine: what range of missiles can be expected
The Tomahawk missile, which was introduced into the arsenal of the US military back in 1983, remains one of the main weapon systems. Over time, it has undergone several updates, and now there are several versions of the missile with different flight ranges.
The latest version of the Tomahawk is the Tomahawk Block V, which was introduced in 2021. Previously, there were the Block IV version (since 2006), the Block III (since 1993), and the Block II (since 1984), which were also widely used. After the cessation of nuclear munitions in 2010, the range of the Tomahawk missile slightly decreased but remained at a high level.
The current maximum flight range of the missiles is 1600 km for the Tomahawk Block V and 1700 km for the Block III, which could be significant for Ukraine.
The Tomahawk Block V has two sub-versions: one for ground target engagement and the other for striking ships. Each version has its unique capabilities and characteristics.
Conclusion: The Tomahawk missile remains one of the key weapon systems in the world, with several versions, different properties, and flight ranges that could have strategic significance for countries, including Ukraine.
