Joby Aviation and Toyota Forge Strategic Manufacturing Partnership

According to НВ — Техно: On July 6 at 08:30, Joby Aviation and Toyota announced a strategic manufacturing alliance aimed at the commercial production of electric air taxis (eVTOL). This collaboration leverages Toyota's expertise to provide efficient manufacturing support. Joby Aviation plans to launch its air taxi service in major global cities-including New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and Japan-once it completes certification in the United States. This partnership marks a significant step toward making urban air mobility a reality.

Joby Aviation is developing a fully electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. This technology promises to revolutionize urban mobility and reduce road congestion. Toyota has been collaborating with Joby Aviation for nearly a decade, reflecting long-term plans and a strategic partnership between the companies. Toyota brings extensive automotive manufacturing experience: over nearly 70 years of operations in the North American market, it has produced more than 50 million cars and trucks across 14 manufacturing plants in the region. Toyota currently employs nearly 64,000 people there.

Demonstration Flight and Certification Milestones

A demonstration flight of the Joby Aviation air taxi with Toyota took place at the Fuji Speedway in Japan in December 2025. This marked a crucial step toward realizing the vision of aerial mobility. Joby Aviation is now finalizing its certification in the United States, a critical phase for launching its service. Notably, the U.S. government signed executive orders last year to establish a pilot program for testing eVTOL aircraft.

“Since our founding, we have been guided by the philosophy of providing mobility for all. Over time, we have continued to expand the concept of mobility. We see aerial mobility as a natural extension of that philosophy-from the ground to the sky-and as a way to bring new value to people's lives and society. It is truly important for us to take on this challenge together with Joby, a partner that shares the same vision.”

Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota

JoeBen Bevirt, representative of Joby Aviation, emphasized: 'Together, we share a vision of making aerial mobility an everyday reality, and we look forward to fulfilling that promise together.' This alliance between Joby Aviation and Toyota opens new opportunities for innovation in transportation and offers consumers fresh mobility options.

This strategic alliance between Joby Aviation and Toyota could significantly reshape the urban mobility landscape, as the introduction of electric air taxis provides new possibilities for fast and eco-friendly transport. Importantly, the development of this sector involves not only technical innovations but also the need to adapt regulatory frameworks, which is key to successfully integrating new technologies into daily city life. The success of these initiatives could serve as a major catalyst for further investments in infrastructure and technologies that support aerial mobility.
