Sharp Increase in Gambling Self-Exclusion Applications in Ukraine

According to Главком: The number of self-exclusion requests from gambling activities has risen dramatically in Ukraine in 2026. In just the first four months of this year, over 3,000 individuals were added to the national register of persons restricted from gambling. This marks a tenfold increase compared to the period from June to December 2025, when only about 300 people were placed on the list. The data highlights a growing public interest in self-regulation mechanisms.

PlayCity's Role and Player Support Tools

PlayCity, a major gambling operator in Ukraine, now processes roughly 1,000 self-exclusion requests each month. The total number of people on the Register of Persons with Restricted Access to Gambling has exceeded 16,000. Once a request is submitted, the information is entered into the system within one business day. For those who apply on their own behalf, the self-exclusion period ranges from six months to three years. When filing a request for a close relative, the restriction lasts up to six months, with the option to extend.

Additionally, PlayCity is actively testing the State Online Monitoring System, which has already been joined by five gambling operators. On the official PlayCity website, under the 'Fighting Gambling Addiction' section, users have access to the following tools:

  • a test to assess the risk of gambling addiction;
  • an online application for self-exclusion;
  • an online application to restrict access to gambling for a first-degree relative.

These efforts reflect a heightened focus on gambling addiction in Ukraine and a commitment to creating safer conditions for players.

The surge in self-exclusion applications suggests that awareness of gambling addiction is growing among the population. It may also indicate the effectiveness of public information campaigns and available resources that help people identify risks and take protective measures. Such initiatives could contribute to fostering a more responsible attitude toward gambling in Ukraine.

As the number of self-exclusion requests continues to rise, understanding the broader implications of gambling on society becomes increasingly important. A recent initiative in Ukraine aims to explore the societal effects of gambling, shedding light on the challenges and potential solutions related to addiction.
