Search for the body of a 23-year-old man in the lake
В пошуках 23-річного юнака, який зник у водах київського озера, триває четвертий день.

Ongoing Search Operation in Obolon District

According to Главком: Rescue divers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) have been searching for a 23-year-old man who drowned in Lake Redkyne in Kyiv's Obolon district on June 20. The operation is now in its fourth day. So far, over 3,000 square meters of the lakebed have been examined, but the victim's body has not yet been recovered. The search is severely hampered by thick silt and zero underwater visibility, making the divers' work extremely difficult.

According to Kyiv's SES, the search will continue at the request of the victim's family. This tragic incident is not isolated. Recent drownings in the capital include:

  • In late May, two young foreign nationals drowned in Hydropark, located in the Dnipro district.
  • On June 12, the body of a teenager who drowned was recovered in the Desnianskyi district.

Authorities are urging the public to follow water safety rules, especially during the summer when more people visit lakes and rivers. They stress that such incidents can have fatal consequences, and rescue operations are complex, resource-intensive, and often prolonged.

Water Safety Remains Critical

This case underscores the vital importance of adhering to water safety guidelines. With the summer season drawing more visitors to bodies of water, emergency services are calling on citizens to stay vigilant and prioritize their own safety. The search for missing persons is a difficult and lengthy process that requires the coordinated efforts of many specialists.

This ongoing search operation highlights a troubling trend of water-related incidents in Ukraine. Similar to the case of a 10-year-old girl swept out to sea near Odesa, these events emphasize the critical need for heightened awareness and adherence to safety measures around water bodies, especially during the busy summer months.
