Pollution Cleanup Underway at Kyiv Lake Following Russian Strike

Responding to the Aftermath of an Attack on Lake Kyrylivske

According to ДСНС: Cleanup operations are actively progressing on Lake Kyrylivske in Kyiv after damage caused by a Russian attack. The surface water contamination spans 20,600 square meters, with an estimated 1,700 tons of polluted water requiring treatment. To contain and mitigate this environmental crisis, authorities have deployed 720 meters of absorbent boom barriers and 300 meters of permanent floating barriers.

The response effort involves the following resources:

• 55 rescue personnel
• 19 pieces of equipment
• 2 boats
• 3 trailers
• 9 skimmers

A critical step has been sealing off the collector channel between Lake Kyrylivske and Lake Yordanske to prevent further spread of pollutants. As of today, 65 cubic meters of contaminant have been collected, with 18 cubic meters removed in the last 24 hours alone. This marks the fourth consecutive day of cleanup operations.
