Power Outage Disrupts Water Supply to Four Kyiv Districts
Water Supply Issues in Kyiv
According to Главком: On March 9, residents in parts of Kyiv experienced low water pressure in the municipal supply network. The disruption was caused by a power outage at Kyivvodokanal facilities, which resulted from an emergency electricity shutdown by the DTEK energy company. Consequently, four of the capital's districts-Solomianskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Podilskyi-faced difficulties with their water supply. Such infrastructure disruptions highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Ukrainian cities during wartime.
Specialists have begun work to stabilize the situation and restore normal pressure to the water mains. Meanwhile, the city of Lviv is also reporting a separate water supply problem. Part of the city was left without water due to an accident on a main water pipeline in the Domazhyr area, which was caused by unauthorized work carried out by private heavy machinery.
Situation in the Cities
As noted by Valentyn Mondriivskyi,
"The main problem has been the 'thawing' of systems in those districts where the water was not drained in time or where the structural features of the network do not allow this to be done completely."
The situations in both Kyiv and Lviv require swift resolution to ensure the population has access to water.
The water supply issues in Kyiv and Lviv underscore the vulnerability of urban infrastructure during emergencies, particularly those triggered by power cuts and technical failures. It is critical for the responsible services to respond quickly to such incidents, as a reliable water supply is vital for public health and daily life. In light of this, additional measures may be taken to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.
