Court in Lviv renders verdict: 3 years
Суд у Львові ухвалив рішення про трирічний термін для чоловіка за ухилення від військового призову.

Court Ruling on Draft Evasion

According to Главком: A court in Lviv has sentenced a local man to three years in prison for failing to report for military service. The man, a native of the Sambir district, was deemed fit for duty but did not appear at the designated assembly point after receiving his summons. While pleading guilty in court, he expressed a desire to serve in a non-combat role.

Court documents show the accused reported to a Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) for a data check, underwent a military medical commission, and was certified as fit. On April 22, 2025, he signed his combat summons. However, he failed to report to the assembly point at 9:00 AM on May 10 as ordered, offering no explanation or request for deferral.

The court found the defendant fully guilty, noting his remorse. The sentence was issued under Article 336 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The judge stated that rehabilitation was impossible without incarceration, denying a probationary period. The verdict will become final after the appeal period expires.

The Wider Context of Mobilization Evasion

In a related development, a court in Cherkasy region also handed down a sentence to a resident for refusing mobilization. Meanwhile, in Kyiv, law enforcement detained a citizen suspected of facilitating illegal draft evasion and attempting to influence court decisions. He allegedly promised to remove a conscript from the 'Oberih' wanted database for money, receiving 95,700 hryvnias.

During his trial, the Lviv defendant stated that if served a summons, he was prepared to perform military service, but requested assignment to a rear area, not an active combat zone. This case highlights the severe legal consequences of draft evasion and the importance of adhering to the law during wartime.

Draft evasion remains a critical issue in Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. Rulings like this one underscore the authorities' determination to enforce military obligations and punish those attempting to avoid service. Such cases also expose criminal schemes that seek to exploit legal loopholes for personal gain. The Ukrainian government has been tightening mobilization laws to address manpower needs for the defense effort.
