In Poland, the rules of residence for Ukrainians in collective accommodation centers are changing. As of November, amendments to the special law have come into effect, limiting the categories of people who can live in such centers without alternative housing. This is reported by the portal In Poland.

Who retains the right to live in collective accommodation centers in Poland

Now only certain categories of Ukrainians can remain in the centers, specifically:

  • people with disabilities and their caregivers (provided they do not receive care allowance)

  • elderly people

  • pregnant women.

Everyone who previously paid 50% or 75% of the accommodation cost has lost this right and must seek other housing options. Ukrainians receiving a Polish pension now pay 15 zlotys per day, regardless of the amount of benefits.

The right to residence will also be lost by families with three or more children if all children are over 7 years old. Those who have just arrived in Poland and do not belong to vulnerable groups will also not be able to claim places in the centers.

What changes have been introduced

Previously, most Ukrainians could live in such centers for free or partially covering food and accommodation. Now the government is making the system more targeted – assistance will remain only for those who cannot support themselves independently.

What support will be provided to people leaving

As part of the program, Ukrainians are provided with:

  • employment consultations;

  • housing search assistance;

  • financial support;

  • free Polish language courses.
